Biography

Eugène de Bouton is the original member of the Bouton family in Barlow County. He traveled to Oregon with a group of settlers in 1866, originally intending to settle in the Willamette Valley. However, when he was shot in the area of Shatter Hill by an intemperate member of the wagon train, he was forced to end his journey. The bullet cost him his leg.

With his son, Anton de Bouton, he helped found Bouton Funerary Service. The business would remain in the family to the present.
