Barlow County Sheriffs Department is the primary law enforcement organization in Barlow County in the Melisende Dulac Series.

The small department is made up of nine sworn officers and a half-dozen full- and part-time administrative staff.

The department's office is located in Samuelton in the Sam Barlow Building across the street from Susannah Lee Memorial Park. The office itself takes up one half of the second floor, across from the county commission offices. The county jail is located in a secure section of the basement.

Omar Duniway served as Chief Deputy up through the events of Crossroad, when his position ended with his arrest on charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and human trafficking. Jeremy Chapman was killed by Duniway.
