Aaron Martin Kadash is a character in the Eden Pond Series (also mentioned, but never appeared, in the Skin Kadash Series.

Biography

Though his first name is Aaron, he goes by his middle name—Martin, or preferably Marty—to downplay his Jewish heritage.

In Murder at the Shipyard, he works as a chipper. Police suspect him of killing Victor Thibault, perhaps to protect Eden.

After the war, he marries Ursula Voronin, and fathers Skin Kadash. In 1946, he starts singing with a Portland area jazz band and soon develops a modest career as a recording artist.

His career is aided by a Portland mobster, but doesn't go far. For a while, he wore a black eyepatch and implied he lost his eye during the war. This provides an explanation for the birthmark too, but it doesn't seem to matter. His records don't sell well and soon he finds he can only land small nightclub gigs. Increasingly indebted and in need of cash, he goes to work for the mobster after Ursula gets pregnant.

He goes missing in 1954 and is presumed dead.

Appearance
Had a melodic voice in sharp contrast to a face no one would call handsome. A gap in his yellow teeth marked a missing upper left canine. Short brown hair. A port wine birthmark around his left eye. Craggy and calloused hands from his work at the shipyard.
