Tillie Larkin

Tillie Larkin is a character in the Eden Pond Series.

Biography

Tillie is a close friend of Eden Pond, something of a mother figure. She also a crack pilot and barnstormer.

As a girl, she helped Merton Pond raise the twin children, Eden and Harry. As a young adult, she came to love Merton—a love he never believed he could return. Nonetheless, she remained devoted to him and the younger Ponds throughout her life.

Description
She was a large, rawboned woman with wide-set brown eyes and dirty blond hair. "No man ever called me pretty, which is just as well. I'd probably deck him."

Aviation
Tillie owns a de Havilland Fox Moth, imported from the UK, which she uses for charters. For cropdusting, she flies a Travel Air biplane. She runs her aviation service out of the Tillamook Airport.

Tillie dies when her biplane crashes at the beginning of Women's Air Service. At first her death is ruled pilot error by U.S. Navy investigators, but Eden Pond believes it to be the result by sabotage by a male Navy pilot who resented Tillie's aviation skills.
