Madison Key

Madison is a character in the Melisende Dulac Series.

Biography

Maddie Key is a former employee at Dearth's Earth. While in high school, she was Emile Freshwater's girlfriend and discovered his body after the Freshwater Murders.

During the events of Memory Garden, she works at the Samuelton Ledger as a local reporter and copy editor. She also works part-time at Cuppa Jo as a barista. She is friendly with Theta Wimble, having first met online through a true crime forum.

Description
She dyes her hair black (from natural brunette) and usually keeps it in a short bob. Her left nostril is pierced, and she usually wears a small sapphire stud. Both arms are covered in sleeve tattoos illustrating jungle vines and birds. She uses a Juul.

Maddie has long questioned Clark’s involvement in the Freshwater Murders. She argues that while it was just barely possible that Clark killed Dorothy, security footage from the Dryer Lake hotel parking lot showed Clark arriving in his Jeep at 9:08am, roughly the time Jared and Emile would have returned home after track practice. Given the fact it was a minimum 30 minute drive from Samuelton to Dryer Lake, Clark couldn't have killed the boys or even Tabitha and still made it to the resort at the time security video showed him arriving. Maddie's argument is supported by the neighbor who reported hearing the gunshots no earlier than 8:15am and no later than 9:15am.

Authorities suggest either the clock at the hotel security system was off or reports of exactly when the boys left practice and Tabitha her overnight were inaccurate. Lack of any other plausible suspects and Clark's apparent flight lend weight to their belief he was the perpetrator.

The DVD with a copy video file taken in evidence by investigators was subsequently lost. Because the hotel system backups were automatically purged after 30 days there was no further opportunity to analyze the recording.
