After the deaths of the Pond parents, [[Merton Pond|Merton]] kept the plot for many years, but was forced to sell much of the timber land during the Depression. He retained a single acre, a spot that had long been a recreational camp for family outings and also the site of a small family grave plot. Rufus and Arabella, along with their infant daughter Stella who died soon after birth, were buried in the plot.
