Nanette Howard is a character in the Eden Pond Series.
Biography
Nanette Howard worked at New Day Bakery, where she was friendly with Harry Pond and later with Eden Pond. She was one of the indigenous Tillamook people. She grew up in the derisively-named "Squawtown" community at Hobsonville on the northeastern side of Tillamook Bay.
Her son, Oscar, was a gunner's mate in the U.S. Navy, assigned to the USS Nevada. He was struck by shrapnel while trying to clear a jam on his team's anti-aircraft gun during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Description
In her early 40s during the events of Tillamook Guerrillas, Nanette had black hair threaded with silver, usually worn in a tight, braided bun. Her eyes were large, dark brown, and full of life. She had a tawny complexion, with deep lines at the corners of her eyes and mouth.
