	Gruffyn Freshwater is the first member of the Freshwater family to immigrate to Barlow County, arriving in 1866 with his wife. In time, he would exploit and mining claim at Certain Butte south of [[Samuelton]]. Several landmarks are named for him or his descendants, including [[Freshwater Knoll]] and [[Freshwater Hot Springs]]. Over the years, the Freshwater clan would achieve significant wealth and suffer devastating hardship.
